Course Description
Do you see kids who cry, can't sit still, pay attention or can't interact with their peers?? This course is designed for the speech and language pathologist, developmental therapist and classroom teacher seeking a basic understanding of sensory integration and how to integrate SI theory into their practice or classroom. This course is essential for the therapist or teacher working with children who have problems with modulation, regulation, and organization that impacts their communication and speech, play skills and learning. Course material will focus on basic concepts of theory, assessment and treatment of sensory integration dysfunctions as they relate to a variety of diagnostic categories addressed by the clinician. There will be a speech and language therapist consulting during the course to assist with the integration of the information.
This is a great course for anyone wanting to learn about sensory disorders in the children they treat-physical therapists, developmental therapists, teachers, PTAs and COTAs
Course Objectives
The participant will:
1) Understand basic concepts of sensory integration theory
2) Understand basic concepts of proximal and peripheral sensory systems
3) Identify modulation and discrimination disorders in a variety of children
with speech and language disorders
4) Apply basic sensory integration principles to treatment of a variety of
children
